WITNESSING THE MIRACLE OF LIFE: CAPTURING LAUREN'S HOME BIRTH.

As a photographer and a mother, there are moments in life that take your breath away—and Lauren’s home birth was one of those truly unforgettable experiences.I had the honour of documenting her incredible journey, and it was a powerful reminder of just how extraordinary women are. From the moment I arrived at her home, there was a sense of calm. Lauren AKA The Relaxed Mumma (Give her Insta a follow), who had opted for a home birth, approached the build-up to labour with such grace. She was centred, focused, and entirely in tune with her body. It was as if she knew exactly what she needed to do, and she trusted herself completely. Watching her, I felt a deep sense of admiration and awe—women are truly amazing

A Birth Without Pain Relief

What made Lauren’s birth even more inspiring was her decision to go without traditional pain relief. Instead, she relied on two simple yet powerful tools: a birthing comb and the warmth of her home hot tub. For those unfamiliar, a birthing comb is a small, textured tool that helps distract from labour pain through acupressure. I watched as she calmly held onto it, breathing through each contraction, her strength evident with every moment.

When the time came to push, Lauren transformed into a powerhouse. It was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Her determination, resilience, and pure willpower were palpable in the room. She navigated each stage of labour with such quiet strength—it was as if her body knew exactly what to do. The midwives from Stevenage’s Lister Hospital were wonderful as well, offering gentle guidance and the kind of support a woman needs during those moments when she feels like she can’t go on. They were a perfect balance of reassurance and encouragement.

Capturing the "Firsts"

As a photographer, one of the most special parts of this experience was being there to capture those precious “firsts” in the hour after baby Orli was born. The first time Lauren held her son in her arms, the first tiny cries, and the first skin-to-skin contact—all moments so full of love and raw emotion. I could feel the bond between them, and it was impossible not to get swept up in the magic of it all. Newborns change so quickly in that first hour after birth. I was amazed at how baby Orli transformed in such a short time—his features softening, his tiny fingers grasping, and his eyes slowly adjusting to the world. It's moments like these that remind me why I love doing what I do—capturing these brief, powerful moments that families will cherish forever.

An Empowering Experience.

As a mother myself, watching Lauren give birth was a deeply empowering experience. Birth is not easy—it’s raw, intense, and incredibly emotional. But witnessing her calm presence and sheer strength during such an intimate moment was a testament to the incredible power women hold. It reaffirmed for me that women are capable of anything, especially when it comes to bringing life into the world. Being part of Lauren's home birth and capturing these intimate moments was not only a privilege but a reminder of the beauty in life’s simplest, yet most profound experiences. Baby Orli was just perfect, and I feel so lucky to have been there to document his entrance into the world.

Gratitude and Reflection

Lauren’s home birth was a beautiful reminder that every birth is unique, and each one carries its own story of strength and resilience. I’ll never forget the quiet power of that room, the loving care of the midwives, or the moment baby Orli first opened his eyes. It’s a day I will treasure as both a photographer and a fellow mother.

To Lauren, thank you for letting me be a part of such an intimate and special moment in your life.

And to all the mothers out there—you are amazing.

Never forget the incredible strength you carry within.
